Maija Leimane
Maija Leimane is a Latvian multidisciplinary artist whose creative journey began in childhood, nurtured by an environment rich in artistic inspiration. After working in digital graphics and web design, she gradually turned her focus toward more tactile and experimental forms of artistic expression.
Her practice encompasses abstract painting, tactile artworks, handmade objects, and recycled art. Transformation lies at the core of her artistic philosophy, with reclaimed materials, layered surfaces, and textures serving as key elements in her visual language.
Deeply inspired by nature, psychology, and the relationship between emotions, human experience, and the natural world, she creates works that invite not only observation but also sensory engagement.
Through materiality and touch, her art offers space for personal interpretation and emotional connection.

Painting
This work is about contrasts and longing.
It embodies the coolness of the Latvian sea, the darker seasons, restraint, introspective calmness, and the quiet reserve of the North - a slightly melancholic, silent, and deeply reflective dusk-like feeling.
At the same time, it carries a sparkling inner fire of dawn - a fire that warms the soul and calls from afar toward turquoise reflections of water touched by the sunlight of a juicy orange. Toward an expressive, colourful, emotional, and warm world that I also feel resonating within my Latvian shell.
The scratches, marks, and rough textures within the work are not accidental. They serve as a raw reminder that beauty also carries its own cracks, sharp edges, and layers. Whether in dense, dark fog or bright sunlight, we all carry our own cracks, pain, and soul scars. Within all of this exists beauty, fragility, and vulnerability - qualities that connect and unite us, no matter which side of the horizon we stand on.
