Diego Becurious
Stefano Porrelli, known artistically as Diego Becurious, was born in Bari in 1990. His artistic practice is rooted in a profound reflection on human experience, vulnerability, and the transformative potential of pain.
For the artist, creativity is not the product of inspiration alone but a process of self-awareness and personal redemption. Through painting, he explores inner worlds, giving form to emotions that are often difficult to articulate and continually redefining personal boundaries and limitations.
The human body plays a central role in his work, becoming a metaphor for fragility, memory, and identity. His paintings are characterised by an expressive and instinctive gesture, where energetic brushstrokes alternate with fluid and harmonious movements.
Through his creative process, Diego Becurious investigates the relationship between materiality, spirituality, and personal experience, transforming painting into a space for reflection, discovery, and continuous growth.
The Conflict of the Mind, 2024
Mixed media: oil, acrylic, spatula,
gold leaf on cotton canvas
70 × 100 cm
Painting
The work reflects the enduring conflict between human action and the response of the Earth.
An abandoned shipyard, a powerful orca dominating the sea, and stormy horizons become symbols of humanity’s excessive ego and its impact on the natural world. A small boat, overwhelmed by these forces, searches for a new course, while gold leaf evokes a sacred presence that offers reconciliation rather than revenge. The work invites reflection on responsibility, transformation, and the fragile balance between humanity and nature.
